As with every forum, there are many things for new members to get to grips with. Even if you've been on other ProBoards forums, there's a certain way we do things here at TEH. To help you all out so that the co-admins aren't bombarded with questions (ELLY! HOW DARE YOU TYPE THAT!), here's some important details.
1) Usernames and Display Names
We have had a lot of people asking about the difference between usernames and display names in the past. Your username can be anything at all, and your display name must be your chataracter name. EG: Your username could be sally and you use this ONLY TO LOG IN WITH. Your display name cannot contain the name 'Sally'. Your display name is what we all see and what we call you. EG: Laura Hodge. It's usually best to keep your username short and simple, something easy for you to remember.
2) PM and Email
For all of you that don't know, PM stands for 'Personal Message' and it words as a kind of on-site email service. You can PM someone by clicking the little envelope button underneath their avatar or clicking on their name and clicking 'PM this member'. On TEH, the Personal Messages can be accessed under the 'Letters' option in the hotbar underneath the forum logo.
Email is something different and the only time we use it on TEH is when a member of staff send out a notification mass email. We advise that you hide your email adress so guests cannot spam your inbox.
3) Avatars and Signatures
Your avatar is your display picture or profile picture. You can have any avatar you want as long as it's a GIF or JPG/JPEG file and on the internet. You CANNOT load an avatar from your computer - we're not being difficult, it's just how ProBoards works. As long as the avatar is appropriate and is 100x100 pixels or smaller, you can have it. As Leila said in the 'Hello' thread, if you're arty, feel free to use a drawn picture of your character. But if your avatar is of a celeb/model, you'll have to register it on the 'face claim' thread.
A signature is the text/graphic that you see underneath each post we type. Again, you can use any picture as long as it is a GIF/JPG/JPEG file and appropriate, and the same goes for text. We allow UBBC and HTML codes for your signatures. If you would like one made for you, please PM Samantha Jackson or Ylana Thomson, our Graphics Squad.
